I’m a writer and communications consultant based in Nova Scotia, Canada. My job is to read broadly, observe in detail, question, challenge, envision and communicate. I’ve worked in cutting edge advertising and PR agencies, conscientious federal government departments, hungry newsrooms and quiet, solitary offices.
As a journalist, I’ve interviewed some of Canada’s top politicians, CEOs, environmentalists and writers, from whom I’ve learned an immense amount. I’ve listened with empathy and curiousity to courageous, everyday people talk about the tragedies, synchronicities, conscious decisions and happy accidents that shape their lives.
As a business owner, I’ve strategized, negotiated hard bargains, administered a growing business, mentored up-and-comers, planned events, produced ground-breaking reports and helped organizations and people communicate in a clever, clear and authentic way.
My clients and colleagues describe me the same way my friends and family do: adventurous, competitive, kind, funny, direct. (And tall.)

He sits down, runs a hand through his famously grizzled hair and starts answering questions. It is late in the day, and Dexter is pale, tired-looking and verging on hoarseness. But he conducts himself with the discipline of the former military man he is, marshalling information, delivering it clearly, managing expectations, staying on message. Five months into the job he’s long coveted, and Darrell Dexter is already an old pro in what experts like to call “change management.”

Maybe I’ll write to Dr. Oz next, and see if there’s a way to simultaneously boost energy and cut calories.
