Bennett Restaurants was founded by Cathy Bennett in September 1999. Currently she has more than 350 employees at nine locations in St. John’s, Mount Pearl and Goulds. Bennett began her own career with McDonald’s in the fall of 1981 as a part-time crew member at the Torbay Road restaurant.

Rocco Lofano, Vice President, Eastern Canada, McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada, said “We are very proud to work with a strong and passionate network of franchisees like Cathy Bennett. On behalf of McDonald’s I would like to extend my congratulations to Cathy on her selection as one of the Top 50 CEOs in Atlantic Canada.”

Bennett was one of 10 women CEOs and 12 Newfoundlanders on the 2010 Top 50 CEOs list, which was compiled by a panel of six judges, all Top 50 CEO Hall of Fame inductees, from a larger list of nominees from across the Atlantic region. Nominees were judged according to their corporate, community and industry involvement; their company’s growth in recent years; and their responses to various managerial challenges.

Bennett said “This award really means a lot to me because it celebrates the ongoing success of my company and my employees, as well as the positive impact I have been able to make in my community. I’m so happy to be operating my business in the province where I grew up and that I love so much. I am also very proud to be part of a franchise system that allows and encourages me to give back to the community in so many ways.”

Bennett is currently Vice Chair, Communications and Fund Development, of the board of directors of Ronald McDonald House Newfoundland and Labrador, which is overseeing the establishment of a new Ronald McDonald House for Newfoundland families, adjacent to the Janeway Children’s Health Centre in St. John’s. She is also a Governor with the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council, sits on the Board of Directors for NL Hydro, Bull Arm Site Corporation and Nalcor Energy, and is Past Chair of both the St. John’s Board of Trade and St. John’s Clean and Beautiful.

Earlier this year Bennett Restaurants was also awarded the Employer of Distinction Award by the Newfoundland and Labrador Employers Council.

Atlantic Business Magazine has been recognizing Atlantic Canada’s most accomplished business leaders with its Top 50 CEOs list since 1999. To be eligible, nominees must lead a company or organization whose head office is in Atlantic Canada or who are in charge of a provincial/regional head office that has significant decision-making and organizational autonomy.

Report created for CIOs and healthcare IT decision makers highlights vendors that are innovative, impactful and intriguing

TORONTO and SAINT JOHN, N.B. – April 27, 2010 – AnyWare Group Inc., a leading provider of healthcare portal solutions, today announced it has been included in the list of “Cool Vendors in Healthcare Providers, 2010″ report by Gartner, Inc. AnyWare Group is one of five vendors highlighted in the report, recognized for providing innovative and potentially transformative solutions for healthcare delivery organizations (HDOs).

One of the report’s key findings was “HDOs are rushing to provide clinicians mobile access to applications and patient data, but they are struggling with identity and access management. They will need to explore innovative, nontraditional approaches*.”

AnyWare Group provides physician and patient portal solutions to healthcare organizations using an innovative managed service approach that simplifies remote access deployments, including identity and access management. As a secure web-based managed service, AnyWare Group’s ROAM solution enables healthcare organizations to provide its constituents with remote access to critical applications and systems at a fraction of the cost and time of solutions developed in house.

Driven by the need to reduce costs and improve usability, healthcare organizations use AnyWare Group’s solutions for initiatives that range from providing workers remote access to applications in a clientless manner, to involving patients in the management of their health.

“Inclusion in the Cool Vendor report by Gartner confirms our belief that healthcare IT decision makers need alternatives to traditional ‘buy, build and support’ software models,” says Robert Lalonde, CEO of AnyWare Group. “Our unique approach to delivering healthcare physician and patient portal solutions redefines the quality of solutions healthcare organizations can deliver and the time needed to deliver it.”

The authors of the report include senior Gartner analysts Jonathan Edwards, Barry Runyon, Vi Shaffer, Thomas J. Handler, M.D., John-David Lovelock, and Wes Rishel.

*About Gartner’s “Cool Vendors” Selection Process Gartner’s listing does not constitute an exhaustive list of vendors in any given technology area, but rather is designed to highlight interesting, new and innovative vendors, products and services. Gartner disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, with respect to this research, including any warranties of merchantability or fitness of a particular purpose.

Gartner defines a cool vendor as a company that offers technologies or solutions that are: Innovative, enable users to do things they couldn’t do before; Impactful, have, or will have, business impact (not just technology for the sake of technology); Intriguing, have caught Gartner’s interest or curiosity in approximately the past six months.

About AnyWare Group
Founded in 1999, AnyWare Group is a leading supplier of portal solutions for healthcare. The company’s award-winning ROAM Platform enables secure access for patients and providers to healthcare applications and information from any device when they need it. Through the ROAM portal, overall healthcare outcomes are improved. Providers are given the information they need to work more efficiently while patients receive the tools needed to effectively self manage their conditions.
This updated analysis reviews the changes announced by the New Brunswick government on January 20th, but does not take a position on whether New Brunswick should approve the final agreement that will be based on the modified MOU. In fact, that agreement may differ from what is now understood to be the terns of the deal. The analysis is based on Weil’s experience extending over 30 years in matters relating to the electric industry.

Jan. 26/Toronto – Adex Mining Inc. (“Adex” or the “Company”) (TSX-V: ADE) is pleased to announce the filing of a National Instrument 43-101 (“NI 43-101″) compliant preliminary assessment report (the “PA”) on the North Zone (“NZ”) of its wholly-owned Mount Pleasant Mine Property (“Mount Pleasant” or the “Property”), located in southwestern New Brunswick, Canada with the Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta securities commissions.

As reported in a press release issued by Adex on December 9, 2009 (Adex Mining Reports Indium, Zinc and Tin Production Options for Mount Pleasant North Zone), the results of the PA indicate that there are two potentially viable production options for the NZ, including the production of tin concentrate, indium sponge and zinc metal, and the production of tin concentrate and zinc-indium concentrate. Based on a 10-year projected life for the NZ and production rate of 850 tonnes per day, the PA shows pre-tax internal rates of return (“IRR”) for the tin concentrate, indium sponge and zinc metal production option and the tin concentrate and zinc-indium concentrate production option of 28.87% and 23.49%, respectively.

The press release issued by Adex on December 9, 2009 indicated an after-tax NPV and IRR for tin concentrate, indium sponge and zinc metal production option of $54.2 million and 23.94%, respectively, and an after-tax NPV and IRR for tin concentrate and zinc-indium concentrate production option of $21.5 million and 19.3%, respectively. A modification to the tax computation structure resulted in the reported after-tax values being slightly higher than the values currently indicated in the PA. The PA indicates an after-tax NPV and IRR for the tin concentrate, indium sponge and zinc metal production option of $47.2 million and 22.55%, respectively, and an after-tax NPV and IRR for the tin concentrate and zinc-indium concentrate production option of $18.1 million and 18.0%, respectively. The pre-tax NPVs and IRRs are, however, consistent between the press release issued by Adex on December 9, 2009 and the PA. Adex’s position is not materially affected by the changes in the after-tax results.

The PA and the economic analyses contained therein are preliminary in nature and contain “Inferred” mineral resources that are considered too speculative geologically to have the economic considerations applied to them that would enable them to be categorized as mineral reserves, and there is no certainty that the PA will be realized with more detailed work. Mineral resources that are not mineral reserves do not have demonstrated economic viability.

The PA is now available on www.sedar.com.

January 20, 2010

REXTON, NB, and MOUNT PEARL, NL – Two of Atlantic Canada’s pre-eminent trucking and transportation companies are merging their general freight and equipment-repair facilities to form a new company, Atlantica Diversified Transportation Systems. Effective April 1, 2010, the general freight (dry van and refrigerated operations) and equipment-repair facilities of Warren Transport, part of The Warren Group headquartered in Rexton, NB, and the entire operations (flatbed, van and equipment repair) of D.D. Transport Ltd., headquartered in Mount Pearl, NL, will merge to form Atlantica Diversified Transportation Systems (ADTS). ADTS’s head office will be based in Rexton, while maintaining their offices and operations in Mount Pearl and Clarenville, NL; Bathurst, NB; Debert and Liverpool, NS. Warren’s Vaughn Sturgeon will serve as Atlantica’s president, while D.D.’s Gordon Peddle will serve as vice-president and chief operating officer. The new entity will have about 150 employees. Other divisions of The Warren Group – such as bulk transport and construction services – are not affected by the merger. “The merger of our freight and equipment-repair facilities means more efficient service for our customers, while our employees will have expanded career opportunities within the new company,” said Mr. Sturgeon, Atlantica’s new president. “Atlantica is a growth-oriented company looking into the future and committed to the efficiencies of scale. The operations of Warren and D.D. that have merged complement each other and create a stronger company. Everyone will gain: our customers and our employees.” “The merger of our freight businesses makes sense,” said Mr. Peddle, Atlantica’s new vice-president and chief operating officer. “Whereas D.D. Transport provided more regional coverage, Warren Transport provided more national and North American coverage, so Atlantica will benefit from better reach in a world where security restrictions are expanding every day. From an operations perspective, this merger will also allow us to eventually renew our fleet to more environmentally friendly vehicles that have zero emissions.” Atlantica Diversified Transportation Systems will operate more than 300 pieces of equipment with annual sales expected to be in the range of $25-30 million over the next year. When including companies affiliated with Atlantica, the group will have sales in the $45-50 million range and operate more than 500 pieces of equipment. Atlantica will keep all of the affected merged Warren Transport and D.D. Transport facilities open. The merger will not result in any layoffs. “This merger only makes us stronger and solidifies our future,” said Mr. Peddle. “The merger of certain parts of our operations to form Atlantica is a strategic move that will benefit everyone,” Mr. Sturgeon said. Vaughn Sturgeon The new president of Atlantica Diversified Transport Systems, Vaughn Sturgeon, is also the president and CEO of The Warren Group, based in Rexton, NB. He holds a BA in economics and is a certified management accountant (CMA) and has 20 years of experience in the transportation industry. In addition to its head office in Rexton, Warren also has operations in Bathurst, NB, and Liverpool, NS, as well as in Quebec and Ontario. The company specializes in transportation and construction products and services. Mr. Sturgeon and The Warren Group have been recognized by Enterprise Kent, Atlantic Progress magazine Top 101 listing, and as a finalist in the Ernst & Young Atlantic Canada Entrepreneur of the Year awards. Mr. Sturgeon is involved in many boards and organizations and has been especially involved in the transportation community. He has been a board and executive member of the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association (APTA) since 1999, and is a past chairman of the board of the APTA. Mr. Sturgeon also sits on the board of the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) and is vice-chair of the the Halifax-based Atlantic Institute for Market Studies (AIMS). Gordon Peddle Atlantica’s new vice-president and chief operating officer, Gordon Peddle, has 27 years of experience in the transportation industry. The former owner of D.D. Transport Ltd., he is the immediate past chairman of the board of the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association (APTA). Mr. Peddle is also a member of the board and executive of the Canadian Trucking Alliance’s board of directors, as well as vice-chair of the Canadian Trucking Human Resource Council (CTHRC). A recognized leader in the transportation industry, D.D. Transport Ltd. also made Atlantic Progress magazine’s Top 101 listing and recently received the prestigious “Service to Industry” award from the APTA.

Newfoundland and Labrador’s 2010 tourism television advertising campaign was launched yesterday (Monday, January 11) with the debut of Ancient Land, the latest chapter in the province’s Find Yourself Here television campaign, initially introduced in 2006.

“The spectacular scenery shot in Torngat Mountains National Park is designed to convey the feeling of spiritual connection with the land, a feeling that visitors can experience and appreciate anywhere in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “This is our tenth television ad – the tenth chapter of the story of Newfoundland and Labrador which, over the past four years, has been highlighting unique and compelling aspects of this province and captivating viewers everywhere. The advertisements evoke emotional responses, and have clearly been successful in creating heightened interest in our province as a travel destination of choice.”

To view Ancient Land, and other tourism television advertisements produced over the past four years, visit: www.newfoundlandlabrador.com/SightsAndSounds/VideoClips.aspx

The Honourable Patty Pottle, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs, noted this is the first time Labrador has been featured as the backdrop to a Newfoundland and Labrador television tourism ad, and the first time the province’s Aboriginal heritage has been highlighted in this manner.

“The focus on Aboriginal peoples is particularly appropriate this year, as the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games – with the inukshuk as its logo – will also draw attention to this part of our collective Canadian identity,” said Minister Pottle. “We look forward to sharing this province’s unique Aboriginal heritage with the national and international community, and to being part of the memorable experiences available to visitors to Newfoundland and Labrador.”

“It is particularly timely to launch an advertisement which features Labrador,” said the Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Labrador Affairs. “The recent completion of Phase III of the Trans-Labrador Highway offers increased access to Labrador, so it is an excellent time to have increased focus on this part of our province and its tourism potential.”

Budget 2009: Building on Our Strong Foundation provided an addition $1 million for tourism marketing, bringing the total annual budget to $13 million (from $6 million in 2003). The tourism industry contributed almost $850 million to the provincial economy in 2008 up from $790 million in 2007, and employs approximately 13,000 people.

Halifax – In early December 2009 AIMS released a short, focused analysis of the key questions left unanswered by the MOU for the sale of NB Power. Authored by energy expert Gordon Weil, this piece has generated fierce discussion on both sides of the MOU line. There is little doubt it has quickly become required reading and has on its own advanced the discussion of this key public policy issue more than any other comment on the proposed deal to date.

“And that is as it should be,” says AIMS President & CEO Charles Cirtwill. “Public policy think tanks exist to encourage informed and thoughtful debate on the issues that affect our day to day lives.”

In that light, AIMS today published a Response to the Weil Analysis. It too is written by a noted expert in the energy field, William Marshall, President of WKM Energy Consultants and the former chair of New Brunswick System Operator.

Marshall says that while he in general agrees with the Weil analysis, he does offer clarifications on a number of matters raised by Weil, including on the concerns raised about Point Lepreau, regulation and open access to transmission lines.

“In my view it (the NB Power MOU) is a financial risk mitigation strategy for New Brunswick with the goal of providing electricity customers with lower rates and shielding them from future cost risks,” concludes Marshall. “It does have a few shortcomings that need to be addressed in the definitive agreement but overall is the basis of a deal that provides value for New Brunswick.”

Gordon Weil, President of Maine Energy, who wrote the first piece for AIMS says he wants to make it perfectly clear he is neither for nor against the proposed MOU.

“All I suggest is that New Brunswick fully understand the costs and benefits of the proposed arrangement before deciding,” says Weil. “I have suggested (1) NB should seek through negotiations greater risk sharing by Hydro Quebec; (2) NB should run a benefit analysis using purchased power rather than retention of older generating units as NERA proposed; and (3) it should compare the results and select the better of the two.”

“AIMS has published extensively on NB Power over the years,” says Cirtwill. “Those experts have consistently concluded that the sale of the utility is in the best interest of taxpayers and rate payers. This detailed discussion of the MOU highlights some of the issues that need to be addressed before any binding contract is signed. ”

“Raising such concerns now before the final bill of sale is signed should make for the best possible deal for New Brunswickers.”
