Moncton – Medavie Blue Cross President and CEO Pierre-Yves Julien is pleased to announce today that the company has been awarded a key contract by the Government of Canada. “We acknowledge the confidence the Government of Canada has placed in Medavie Blue Cross by selecting us to administer the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) on behalf of the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC),” says Julien. “Our team is ready to undertake and manage this six-year contract, which has options for multiple extensions.”
Medavie Blue Cross Vice-President, Government, Martin Haynes, says, “This is an important program that provides benefits to more than 100,000 individuals with annual claims of approximately $70 million. This award recognizes the success our organization has demonstrated to date on behalf of our federal and provincial government clients, and we look forward to commencing work on this exciting project.”
With the awarding of this contract, following a competitive process, Medavie Blue Cross now administers four of the six health benefit programs delivered by the Government of Canada to its clients.
The Interim Federal Health Program provides coverage for the health care needs of eligible persons who fall mainly into five groups: refugee claimants, resettled refugees, persons detained under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, victims of human trafficking, and the in-Canada dependants of eligible individuals.
The role of Medavie Blue Cross will be to administer claims submitted by individual health care providers and institutions (e.g. physicians, hospitals, clinics, pharmacists, opticians, etc.), who render medically necessary services to those eligible persons.
