The World’s End Theatre Company, based in Fogo Island-Change Islands, is proud to present The 3rd Annual World’s End Theatre Festival from July 14th to August 8th 2010.
Stories & Songs 8pm Wednesdays & Fridays July 14, 16, 21, 23, 30 & August 4 & 6, Special 6pm Dinner Performance July 28th. Join the company for an evening of entertainment! A program of tales and tunes from across Fogo Island and Change Islands will keep your toes tapping and your hands clapping. Featuring the music and voices of Katie Penton, Carol Penton, Aaron Cobb, Jason Hoven and Greg Kelly, this show is sure to delight. So have a drink or a snack at one of Fogo Island and Change Islands’ Clubs, sit back and enjoy. Directed by Sharon King-Campbell and designed by Jake Blackwood, stage managed by Krista Williams, with Musical Direction by Carol Penton and contributions from the cast.
WORLD PREMIERE: Speaking of Which by Krista Hann 8pm Saturdays July 17, 24, 31 & August 7; 6pm Sundays July 18, 25, August 1 & 8 Peter and Lucy are having a baby and they need a little help to prepare. But when they accidentally invite both in-laws over for supper, they soon learn that they have made a big mistake. Join us for a hilarious and unpredictable evening as the family takes on Fogo Island issues from all sides. Can they find common ground, or will this only be settled in the delivery room? Directed by Sharon King-Campbell, designed by Jake Blackwood, stage managed by Krista Williams and featuring Joan Foley, Jason Hoven, Amanda Penton and Ray Saunders.
WORLD PREMIERE: Adrift by Greg White 6pm Thursdays July 15, 23 & August 5; Special 3pm matinee in Twillingate July 29 In the hungriest part of the winter, four men walked out onto the ice off of Joe Batt’s Arm in search of seals. The fog rose, the wind changed, and the men vanished, leaving only a gaff pole to wash up on shore. Etched in the wood: “Down to Perish, April 11, 1917.” World’s End Artistic Director Greg White is the writer and performer of this brand new and beautiful one-man show based on this decades-old story. Directed by Sharon King- Campbell, designed by Jake Blackwood and stage managed by Kathryn Burke.
Fighting Fire with Snow by Sharon King-Campbell 12pm Saturdays and Sundays July 17, 18, 24,, 25, 31, August 1, 7 & 8 Fighting Fire with Snow intertwines the lives of Peter, Mary and Jacob, residents of an island on the brink of resettlement. The play chronicles the period between 1967 and 1971, including the developement of the Co-op, the fight for a central high school, and the coming together of ten very different communities as they work to maintain their way of life on Fogo Island. Directed by Greg White, designed by Jake Blackwood and stage managed by Kathryn Burke, Fighting Fire with Snow features Colin Brown, Ray Saunders, Carol Penton and music by Aaron Cobb.
Fighting Fire with Snow and Adrift will be presented in the natural beauty of several Fogo Island & Change Islands communities. In case of rain, performances will be moved to a nearby indoor location. Tickets are available at the door for $10 each, or $5 for children under 18 (cash only, please). The World’s End Theatre Company was formed in January 2008 as a project of The Shorefast Foundation, producing professional theatre which reflects the diversity of life on Fogo Island and Change Islands, Newfoundland and Labrador. Residents of the community participate in all aspects of the production, while the scenic islands serve as the backdrop for the stage. World’s End Theatre regularly produces original performances that showcase the history, culture and experiences of Fogo Island. These stories are told by the people who lived them.
